国际学生入学条件
Test Scores Required- 600 on the TOEFL paper-and-pencil test, 100 on the TOEFL internet-based test, 7.5 on IELTS.
Our program is designed for students who seek the Ph.D. Although students entering without a Master's degree earn an M.A. in History in the course of their study here, we do not admit full-time students who wish only to earn a Master's degree. Applications must include a personal statement explaining your reasons for wishing to enter graduate school and outlining your scholarly interests, GRE scores, academic transcripts, letters of recommendations, ideally from faculty members with whom you have worked, and a writing sample, an undergraduate essay or thesis, a masters essay, or some other work of scholarship. The writing sample should not be more than 20 pages long.
We are often asked what we consider important in reviewing applications. First and foremost, we are looking for evidence of scholarly talent and achievement. Grades and GRE scores are, of course, helpful in locating such evidence, but they are not the only things we consider. What you say in your personal statement can be very important, and your writing sample is often the decisive factor in our decision.
Applicants are strongly encouraged to develop a capacity to read scholarly work in the language or languages required for their proposed field of study before enrolling in the Ph.D. program.

课程简介
The Ph.D. in Sociomedical Sciences is an interdisciplinary program, with study divided between the Mailman School of Public Health (MSPH) and one social science department in the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. The aim of the program is to train researchers and teachers to apply social science theory and methods to the study of social factors related to health status and health care needs, social systems, and the relation between these systems and the populations they are designed to serve. Graduates of the program have typically been employed in academic positions either in social science departments or health professional schools, or have taken positions as analysts or evaluation researchers in health planning agencies or consulting organizations. For students who choose history as their social science discipline, the curriculum will be run jointly by the History Department and MSPH. Admissions decisions for the program in history are also made jointly by the MSPH and History. <br>The Department of History offers a comprehensive PhD program in almost every area and period of world history. Its range of intellectual opportunities enables a student to pursue studies in depth in a special field of interest and at the same time gain comparative knowledge in related areas. Those who complete the PhD program teach in major universities throughout the world and work in related fields such as government service and publishing. Fields of study include Africa, Ancient, Early Modern Europe (1350-1750), East Asia, Sociomedical Sciences, International and Global History, Jewish History, Latin America, Medieval Europe, Middle East, Modern Europe, South Asia, and United States.
