According to Cicero, ''history is the witness that testifies to the passing of time, it illuminates reality, vitalizes memory, provides guidance in daily life.'' All of our programs are designed so you are afforded an opportunity to become involved in the process of creating a shared understanding of past events and to pursue areas of history relevant to your own concerns. Our programs will acquaint you with the various approaches to the study of History and provide you with the skills to analyze any issue within its historical context and prepare you to meet today's challenges. Geographically our courses encompass North America, Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean, Africa, South Asia, and the Circumpolar World. Because our classes are relatively small, you will be able to pursue your studies in close collaboration with your professors. The Department of History offers a number of undergraduate program options for students at the Thunder Bay Campus, Orillia Campus, and Online. At the Thunder Bay Campus, students can take a standard 3-year Bachelor of Arts (History Major) and a 4-year Honours Bachelor of Arts (History Major). You may choose to combine your History degree with a degree in English, French, Philosophy, Political Science, Sociology, Women's Studies, Outdoor Recreation, Parks and Tourism, and Concurrent Education. All of our Honours programs can also be combined with a Specialization in Public History of Military History. We also offer a popular Community Placement that allows you to gain experience in history and heritage related jobs. All the programs offered through our department are international exchange friendly. You have the exceptional and unconventional opportunity to study, travel and make friends around the world. Immerse yourself in a new culture, learn more about yourself and expand your global perspective.
