Applicants will normally hold an Honours B.A. or B.Sc. in Psychology (or the equivalent) and a Master's degree in Psychology (or equivalent) with at least an A- average GPA (80%), completion of a research thesis, advanced statistics (A- or 80%) and two strong letters of reference. In addition to transcripts and letters of reference, application packages will include a statement of interest outlining the applicant's proposed area of doctoral research. Applicants judged to be deficient in preparation may be asked to complete course work in addition to the Ph.D. program requirements.
Meeting the minimum requirements does not automatically guarantee acceptance into the program.
The scores for the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) are not required.
Proficiency in English is necessary to pursue graduate studies at Carleton University. All applicants whose first language is not English must satisfy this requirement in one of the following ways:
To present an official overall score of 80 on the Canadian Academic English Language (CAEL) Assessment, or
To present an official Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score of 97 on the internet-based test (IBT) with a minimum score of 24 in writing and speaking and a minimum score of 22 in reading and listening, or
To present an official overall International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of 7.5, with a minimum of 7.0 in each band score, or
To have completed ESLA 1900 or ESLA 1905 at Carleton University with a final grade of B+ or higher

Development refers to the systematic changes that individuals undergo starting before birth and continuing throughout their lifespan. Developmental Psychologists study these changes and try to find the best way to describe and explain what occurs.<br><br>Developmental psychology emphasizes the important interrelationships among the physical, mental, social, and emotional aspects of human development. Development is viewed as a complex interplay between what the individual brings to the process and the context in which development occurs.<br><br>Topics of interest include:<br><br>How infants, children, adolescents and adults change over time<br>Why such developments take place<br>The factors that influence particular developmental processes<br>How and why individuals may differ from one another
