TOEFL: For students for whom English is not the native language, scores must be considered for the Test of English as a Foreign Language. TOEFL score of at least 550 (paper-based), 213 (computer-based), or 79 (IBT – internet based) are minimum requirements for consideration. Applicants accepted by the department who have scores of 600 (paper-based), 250 (computer-based), or 100 (IBT – internet based) or above may be considered for regular admission. Applicants accepted by the department who have score between 550/213/79 and 599/249/99 will be admitted provisionally by the graduate school and must at the time of their enrollment demonstrate proficiency in reading and writing English and in understanding spoken American English to the satisfaction of the Graduate School. These students will be required to take the English Proficiency Test (EPT) prior to enrollment.
GRE (General Test only): minimum of 10th percentile in all three areas, but successful applicants typically have scores over the 50th percentile in the Verbal and 40th percentile in the Quantitative Reasoning sections. A weaker section score can be offset by strong performance in related classes (e.g., research methods/statistics/math for Quant). Test scores over five years old will not be accepted.
Cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale or GPA of 3.0 in the last 60 hours of coursework. This GPA is based only on courses graded on a multi-level scale, usually A, B, C, D, F.
