To be admitted to an undergraduate degree program as a regular freshman student, you must be a graduate from an approved or accredited high school (GED certificate may not be used for admission) and satisfy the below requirements:
You must have a 3.0 weighted GPA in the academic core courses in order to be admitted to the University of Nevada, Reno. The academic courses include: English, math, social sciences and natural sciences. A weighted GPA takes into account the extra difficulty of honors, AP or IB classes.
If you are not admissible, you will be offered enrollment to a Nevada NSHE Community College. You will be offered admission to a Nevada university once you have completed a minimum of 24 college transferable semester credits at a NSHE Community College and have a 2.5 GPA in all your coursework.
If you are a student who does not meet our academic GPA requirements, but have graduated with an Advanced Diploma from a Nevada high school, you will be granted admission to the University. You must also meet the 13 core course requirements in English, mathematics, social studies and natural sciences to be considered for admission.
You must submit your final, official high school transcripts to support your application for admission.

The Spanish major offered through the Department of World Languages and Literatures within the College of Liberal Arts is an invaluable option to further undergraduate education with rich cultural experiences. The B.A. in Spanish provides students with a number of Spanish language skills including linguistic understanding, critical thinking skills, reading, writing and listening proficiency. It also gives students the opportunity to advance their Spanish language skills in composition, culture and literature, as well as advanced grammar, conversation and Spanish film knowledge.<br><br>Students who plan to enter a career using their Spanish language skills may choose to specialize in Spanish through the professions. Students will develop bilingual and bicultural competentency through several course offerings. Students will also gain extensive practice in real-life settings that address the specialized needs of professionals – medical/nursing, legal, business – and prepare students for successful careers in which Spanish-English bilingualism is a key asset.<br><br>Careers with a degree in Spanish<br><br>A Spanish major will open up more career options and make you more competitive on the job market.
