High school Transcripts. Applicants who have attained a high level of academic achievement and who completely satisfy prerequisites will be considered for admission. The minimum requirements for consideration vary by program and admission category. All applicants are required to present a Grade 12 English course for admission consideration.
International Baccalaureate Diploma, with English HL or SL.
International Baccalaureate (IB) English - The minimum requirement is a score of at least 4 (predicted or final) in Higher or Standard Level English A: Literature or English A: Language and Literature. HL English B is not acceptable.
IELTS - The minimum requirement is an overall band of 6.5, with no band below 6.0.
TOEFL IBT - The minimum requirement is a total score of 89 with 22 on the Writing section.

This program is designed to provide students with a fundamental knowledge and grasp of principles and practices in core areas of French: language, grammar, linguistics, literature and culture.<br>The French program includes the following:<br>for practical language students, continuous exercise aimed at cumulative possession of and accuracy in written and spoken French, as well as listening and reading comprehension,<br>for translation students, a related form of practice focused on techniques, strategies, and awareness of structural and socio-cultural differences between French and English,<br>for linguistics students, a firm understanding of French speech sounds, words, sentences, meaning and discourse and their relation to society,<br>for students interested in teaching French, a focus on pedagogical theory and best practice,<br>for literature students, awareness of basic concepts and techniques needed for literary analysis coupled with knowledge of francophone literature in widely different yet interconnected genres, regions, and time periods,<br>for students interested in culture, greater knowledge of diverse yet francophone social, historical, political, moral, intellectual and aesthetic worlds.<br>French programs normally begin with FREA01H3 Language Practice I, which serves to consolidate previous knowledge, and is the prerequisite for more advanced courses in all areas for most non-Francophone students. FREA01H3 is designed primarily for students with Grade 12 core French or equivalent competence. However, all students who are registering for French courses for the first time at the University of Toronto will complete the French Language Placement test (see details below) to determine their level of study before registering for their first French course at UTSC. Students of French have the opportunity to earn academic credit while studying in another province or country.
