If you are attending or have attended a recognized university or college and have a strong academic record, you will be considered for admission based on your postsecondary studies and your most recent annual average, although we will review your entire academic record. Program area prerequisites must be met at, or beyond, the minimum level required for admission from your educational system.
The International Baccalaureate Diploma, including at least three Higher Level courses and English HL or SL is required for admission. Prerequisite courses can be presented at either the Standard or Higher Level. For programs with a Math prerequisite, Mathematics SL or HL is required. Math Studies is not acceptable. A total score of 27, excluding bonus points, is required for admission consideration. More competitive programs require a significantly higher score.
International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic Module: The minimum requirement is an overall band of 6.5, with no band below 6.0. The minimum scores required for the different TOEFL tests are: Internet-based Test: Minimum Requirement: total score of 100 + 22 on Writing, Paper-based Test (discontinued in July 2017) : Minimum Requirement: total score of 600 + 5.0 on TWE

The Language Teaching and Learning programs offered by the Department of Language Studies at UTM are specially designed to provide a comprehensive study of how languages are taught and learned, whether in a second or foreign language context. The programs develop expertise in the areas of pedagogy and skills development, psycholinguistics and language acquisition, bilingualism and multilingualism, sociolinguistics and cross-cultural communication, and teaching and learning through theatre, drama, and culture. Certain courses focus on the teaching and learning of particular languages, while others are not language specific.<br><br>The programs in Language Teaching and Learning provide a solid foundation for students who intend to continue their studies at the graduate level in education, apply to teacher education programs/teachers colleges, complete a TESOL certificate or other related certificate, or for those students who intend to enter the workforce or continue their academic studies in fields that involve employee-training and other forms of workplace education.
