Admission determinations will be based on undergraduate grade point average, undergraduate coursework, letters of recommendation, and written work that demonstrates a philosophical proficiency as well as the ability to achieve the objectives of the applicant’s proposed graduate study. TOEFL Internet-Based Test (IBT) 79 or greater, TOEFL Paper-Based Test (PBT) 550 or greater score. IELTS of 6.5 or greater. Official transcripts from all institutions attended. All international transcripts must be recorded in English or officially translated to English.

The Master of Arts degree in Philosophy offers students the opportunity to acquire a general knowledge of the core areas of analytic and Continental philosophy, to develop ethical reasoning, critical thinking, and research skills, and to prepare and increase competitive ability for admission and success in Ph.D. or J.D. programs UTSA philosophy students have secured admission into the top law school and philosophy graduate programs in the country. Our students benefit from a diverse curriculum, flexible course requirements, and the ability to choose either a thesis or internship track toward completion of the M.A. Finally, our students engage with world-renowned philosophers at our annual Brackenridge Philosophy Symposia.
