Washington State University awards millions of dollars in financial aid and scholarships to students every year based on financial need, academic merit, or a combination of the two. The School of Politics, Philosophy, and Public Affairs offers a series of Young Philosopher Scholarships to freshmen and sophomores. Scholarships memorializing Frank Potter, the first philosophy teacher at WSU, are available for junior and senior philosophy students. Strengths of the program: Our majors enable students to explore critically a variety of systems of beliefs and values, to identify and challenge the foundations of their own beliefs and values, and to develop critical thinking and communication skills that are in high demand and central to success in all professions. Philosophy majors, on average, perform better than any other major on professional and graduate school admission tests that are required for admission to law school, medical school, business administration programs, and graduate school. (GRE, LSAT, and GMAT) Our recent graduates have attended law school at Penn State and the University of Virginia and PhD programs in philosophy at Boston College and Concordia University (Canada).
