Official High School or College transcripts must be sent directly from the schools attended in the U.S. or abroad. Foreign transcripts in a language other than English must be translated before being submitted to the university. Copies or faxes are considered unofficial and will not satisfy this admission requirement.
All international students must submit entrance exam scores. Take one of the following exams and request your scores to be sent directly to UTEP from the testing center:
SAT: minimum score of 1070 (reading + math sections) with a score of 480 on the reading section
ACT: minimum composite score of 23 with a score of 19 on the English section
TOEFL: minimum score of 500 on UTEP's institutional paper based exam or
a minimum score of 61 on the Internet Based TOEFL (IBT)
UTEP does not accept IELTS scores for admission.

UTEP's innovative communication studies program is home to faculty members who are recognized as leaders in fields such as journalism, new media and intercultural communication. The department also houses the Sam Donaldson Center for Communication Studies, named after the UTEP alumnus and former ABC News anchor. The Department of Communication at the University of Texas at El Paso is housed in the Cotton Memorial Building on the UTEP campus. The department was created in 1984 through the merger of the Department of Mass Communication and the Speech program, formerly part of the Department of Speech and Drama. The history and evolution of the program of study in Communication at UTEP, however, goes back to the late 1940s when the Department of Radio-Television and Journalism was first established. Today's program reflects a set of contemporary perspectives of the many innovations, both conceptually and technologically, which continue to define the field of Communication.<br><br>The UTEP program in Communication is a contemporary blend of the humanistic and applied directions of the field. The Department offers five areas of concentration: Communication Studies, Digital Media Production, Organizational and Corporate Communication, Multimedia Journalism, and Media Advertising. We also offer minors in Communication Studies and Film Studies. Our faculty includes a number of highly recognized experts in the various Communication subfields.
