As a sociology major, you'll study how humans relate to one another and why they thrive and flounder in different societies. This concentration gives students the knowledge and skills to be effective in the fields of adult and juvenile justice, community justice, criminal justice, victim advocacy, and the law. You'll have the opportunity to work with the Center for Crime and Justice Research to conduct specialized research projects to assist government agencies, private businesses, community groups, academic institutions, and local courts. Prepare yourself with the knowledge and training you need to work for positive social change. As a sociology major, you'll study how humans relate to one another and why they thrive and flounder in different societies. By learning to ask important questions about human behavior, social inequalities, and institutional structures, you'll develop the skills to solve problems, embrace diversity, and think globally. Suffolk underscores the importance of real-world experience. In addition to your coursework, as a junior and senior you'll have the chance to engage in practicums to conduct fieldwork and help underserved segments of the population. Our well-connected faculty help students obtain internships at a wide range of Boston-area sites, including local courts, youth services centers, schools, law firms, hospitals, crisis centers, social service providers, and shelters.
