As an urban, metropolitan university, our faculty are committed to the values of diversity, human rights, and social justice. Building on a person-in-environment perspective, the Bachelor in Social Work (BSW) curriculum is designed to develop knowledge of human behavior and social problems as well as critical thinking, assessment, problem solving, and evaluative skills. The BSW curriculum empowers students to engage in understanding complex social issues as well as to work within different settings with a variety of client systems at the individual, family, group, community, and organizational levels. Students are prepared to enter the profession of social work through an agency-based field placement.Social work is a growing, dynamic profession that offers many challenges and many rewards. The School of Social Work at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock is committed to the development of students seeking exciting careers as professional social workers. Our aim is to deliver social work education in a style that challenges students to think differently about problems faced by our most vulnerable populations. Across this country, social work professionals serve public and private agencies as invaluable resources for the less fortunate.The mission of the Bachelor of Social Work Program at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock is unique: we are the only undergraduate social work program in the state that is located in a metropolitan university as well as in the state's Capitol.
