Our Geography programs emphasize human interactions with the physical environment, environmental law and policy, environmental economics and environmental management. The Urban Studies concentration takes advantage of the NJ/NY metropolitan setting and the wealth of social, political, cultural, economic and environmental interactions occurring within our area, as well as integrating faculty scholarship expertise in Africa, Latin America, China, India and Vietnam. Students in Geography gain practical skills using Geographic Information Systems and Remote Sensing, experience with both field and laboratory techniques, and participate in research and internship opportunities. Students who wish to pursue P-12 teacher certification in Social Studies must apply to and be admitted to the Teacher Education Program. The social studies teacher is expected to have a broad understanding of the cultural and environmental factors which shape the individual and society.
