Develop the critical thinking skills needed to effectively observe sociological topics and become equipped to conduct sociological research. Chicago is a laboratory for research and observation with its ethnic communities, economic development and urban issues, giving you the opportunity to access Chicago's rich and diverse culture through service opportunities, field experience and internships. The study of sociology is the examination of varying groups, institutions, interactions, and the self in society. Sociologists explore areas such as law and society, health-care institutions, family life, criminology, urban development, social psychology, sports, education, political and economic behavior, media, culture, and the arts. DePaul's Department of Sociology incorporates a curriculum that reflects this range, and we offer a wide variety of courses and concentrations organized around a strong core of methods (how we know) and theory (how we explain).
