Our combined degree programme in Mathematics and Music offers you the opportunity to study in two distinctive disciplines, but also to benefit from the synergies between these two ‘high cognition' subjects. Mathematics enables you to explore the beauty, elegance and practicality of pure mathematics, applied mathematics and statistics. You will learn to use maths to develop precise and logical arguments, construct rigorous proofs, and formulate solutions to new problems. You will study in an intellectually stimulating environment amongst mathematicians producing world-leading research. The Mathematics course at Keele scored 96% for student satisfaction in 2016. In year one of Mathematics you will study core material in calculus and algebra while in subsequent years you can begin to tailor your programme according to your own strengths or interests. For instance, you can specialise in pure or applied mathematics, or explore probability and modelling. You will study in an intellectually stimulating environment amongst mathematicians producing world-leading research. Music focuses on the creation, performance, meaning and uses of music from a diversity of styles, periods and traditions. Alongside opportunities to perform and compose your own music, and to do a module-based work placement in the local community, you will investigate topics in music history, aesthetics, and social impact. You can also access modules from the Music Technology programme to create a programme reflecting your passions. Optional year abroad available.
