This course provides graduates with a professional postgraduate qualification in social work. It is for people who have completed degrees with components of social and behavioural science. The course aims to provide graduates with knowledge and skill for professional practice in contemporary social work and human services and with a strong commitment to social justice and human rights. Students complete 12 academic units which include two fieldwork placements (Practicum 1 and 2). Students will be able to undertake these units, including the fieldwork units, within their regions. All UTAS social work students undertaking clinical or field education placements are required to undertake a national police record check. Other checks may be required by organisations such as for offences involving children. Students need to be able to meet the requirements of the UTAS Safety in Practice policy. Placements are offered in a range of social work agencies throughout Tasmania and applicants should be aware that they may be required to travel for at least one practicum. All travel and accommodation costs incurred during placement are to be met by students.
