Typically you need a history degree 2.1 or above. If your degree is in an unrelated subject and 2.1 or above, we will consider you on individual merit. Overseas students whose first language is not English willbe required to provide certified competence in English language in the form ofBritish Council IELTS test band 7 or above, with a score of at least 7 in allcomponents, or equivalent. If necessary, an offer of a place to read for aresearch degree may be made subject to successful completion of an appropriateperiod of pre-sessional English for Academic Purposes training to enhanceperformance on the research degree programme above the minimum levels ofcompetence outlined above. Applicants with a first degree taught wholly inEnglish will not generally be required to provide other evidence of EnglishLanguage proficiency. Learn to deploy ideas and information to show conceptual grasp and to shape argument. Work towards a 30,000 word dissertation on a topic agreed between you and your supervisor. Study on a course that is ideal if you want to pursue a specific topic or research area in detail. The course is designed to support students who wish to independently research in-depth a particular historical topic of interest. You will be able to demonstrate key critical and analytical skills, including the ability to articulate knowledge and understanding of sources, texts, concepts and theories relevant to the topic.
