An applicant must either be a graduate of an accredited BFA, BA, or equivalent degree program or be judged to possess the necessary prerequisite studio proficiency. Admission into the MFA program or Studio Track, MA program of the Department of Art and Design is based on the nature, extent, and quality of preparation in studio, art history, criticism, and other academic subjects. If an applicant is deemed to be deficient in any of these particular areas, the graduate committee may require satisfactory completion of certain undergraduate courses.

The drawing program centers on an in-depth exploration of ideas and materials to stimulate conceptual and technical refinement. <br><br>The program cultivates a broad approach to media and technique with an expansive use of traditional and contemporary processes. The department offers a strong foundation with drawing as central across all artistic disciplines. Foundation students learn to solve problems of composition, two- and three-dimensional relationships, and personal expression. Advanced and graduate students investigate the language of drawing as integral to aesthetic development and individual creative vision.
