The goal of the sculpture program is to create an environment where student artists can both work and think creatively. In addition to using traditional sculpture materials of wood, bronze, and steel, students are encouraged to explore alternative materials and methods. Through three-dimensional expression, students are expected to develop their creative ability, technical skill, and social awareness. The UTEP Sculpture area has well-equipped studios designed for steel fabrication, woodworking, neon fabrication, alternative media incorporation and features an Epilog Fusion M2 40 Laser Cutter. The aesthetic philosophy in sculpture is contemporary and inclusive. In addition to the traditional media approaches of steel, bronze, and wood, students are encouraged to explore alternative materials and approaches including the exploration of the sculptural possibilities of performance and installation. Students have extended access to the studio facilities and are encouraged to participate in public projects.
