Applicants who have completed at least one year of a visual arts program at a recognized post-secondary institution are eligible to apply for advanced standing. Depending on your prior learning, you can transfer up to a maximum of 75 of the 120 credits required for a degree.
Most students transfer from college diploma or university feeder programs, while others transfer from related degree programs at other universities. Some switch to NSCAD to study a discipline not offered at their current school, or to study with a particular faculty member or facility unavailable elsewhere. Whatever your reason for transferring, we will recognize your prior experience and help you realize your undergraduate goals. Write a brief one-page essay explaining the reasons why you wish to attend NSCAD University. Your essay should discuss the prior experience that you bring to the university. You might also want to touch on the skills and knowledge that you hope to gain, and where you think your NSCAD education might lead you in the future. An academic record of current and previous study is required from all applicants. All transcripts must be official and sent to the Office of Admissions by email directly from the issuing institution. Becuase of the ongoing situation with Covid-19, our staff is currently working from home, and are not able to receive documents by mail or fax. Letters of recommendation are strongly recommended for Advanced standing applicants, but NOT required. They are required for applicants who have been out of school for more than three years. These letters must be received by email directly from the person writing the letter. A visual portfolio is required for all applicants. Upload your portfolio at my.nscad.ca. Click here for information on advanced standing portfolio requirements.
Your List of Works is a list of all your artwork submitted. The List of Works is a word based document that lists your pieces in the same order as they appear in your online application. Information must include: Title, dimensions, mediums used, date created (even if just the year), and any other importnat details you think we should know when viewing the piece. This information can be included directly in your portfolio pdf if that is the format you choose to upload.
