The Post-Master's Certificate (PMC) in Music Therapy is designed for students who hold a Master's degree in mental health counseling, and want to make the transition to Board Certified Music Therapist, or integrate Music Therapy approaches into their counseling practice. Students who successfully complete the certificate program are eligible for Board Certification through the Certification Board for Music Therapist, a nationally recognized and transferable credential. While an undergraduate degree in Music Therapy or a music-related field is not required to be eligible for the PMC in Music Therapy, applicants must pass a music audition. Upon review of applicant's transcript, additional coursework may be required to meet board certification requirements. Students in the PMC program take classes alongside students in the Master of Arts in Music Therapy & Counseling program. Through a balance of classroom education and clinically supervised practicum and internship experiences, students develop a strong foundation for skilled clinical practice. The 53.5 quarter-credit curriculum includes music therapy coursework in areas such as clinical musicianship, clinical improvisation, theories and methods for children, adolescents, adults and older adults, and technological applications.
