To be admitted to an undergraduate degree program as a regular freshman student, you must be a graduate from an approved or accredited high school (GED certificate may not be used for admission) and satisfy the below requirements:
You must have a 3.0 weighted GPA in the academic core courses in order to be admitted to the University of Nevada, Reno. The academic courses include: English, math, social sciences and natural sciences. A weighted GPA takes into account the extra difficulty of honors, AP or IB classes.
If you are not admissible, you will be offered enrollment to a Nevada NSHE Community College. You will be offered admission to a Nevada university once you have completed a minimum of 24 college transferable semester credits at a NSHE Community College and have a 2.5 GPA in all your coursework.
If you are a student who does not meet our academic GPA requirements, but have graduated with an Advanced Diploma from a Nevada high school, you will be granted admission to the University. You must also meet the 13 core course requirements in English, mathematics, social studies and natural sciences to be considered for admission.
You must submit your final, official high school transcripts to support your application for admission.

The music education degree at the University of Nevada, Reno enhances personal skills as a musician and prepares students for teaching others how to explore their own musical interests and talents. The music education degree is unique in that the result of the program not only enhances the student's personal skills as a musician, providing opportunities for further development, but the program also prepares the student for teaching others how to explore their own musical interests and talents.<br><br>Students pursuing a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education will receive their degree from the College of Liberal Arts, however, students must also meet certain requirements of the College of Education to qualify for student teaching and state certification. Once the degree program is completed, students are prepared to teach music in a secondary education setting.<br><br>Within the Bachelor of Music, Music Education degree, students have the opportunity to emphasize in three tracks including: instrumental, voice and general music education.
