To be admitted to an undergraduate degree program as a regular freshman student, you must be a graduate from an approved or accredited high school (GED certificate may not be used for admission) and satisfy the below requirements:
You must have a 3.0 weighted GPA in the academic core courses in order to be admitted to the University of Nevada, Reno. The academic courses include: English, math, social sciences and natural sciences. A weighted GPA takes into account the extra difficulty of honors, AP or IB classes.
If you are not admissible, you will be offered enrollment to a Nevada NSHE Community College. You will be offered admission to a Nevada university once you have completed a minimum of 24 college transferable semester credits at a NSHE Community College and have a 2.5 GPA in all your coursework.
If you are a student who does not meet our academic GPA requirements, but have graduated with an Advanced Diploma from a Nevada high school, you will be granted admission to the University. You must also meet the 13 core course requirements in English, mathematics, social studies and natural sciences to be considered for admission.
You must submit your final, official high school transcripts to support your application for admission.

The Department of Music at the University of Nevada, Reno provides education in the history, performance, theory and pedagogy of music. A degree in music will provide students the skills and knowledge to successfully contribute as music performers, scholars and educators.Music students may learn brass, woodwind, percussion, voice, piano, strings, or guitar. In fundamentals and theory classes, they learn to write and understand music, in methods courses, they learn how to teach music. Music students may participate in one or more of the School of the Arts' performance organizations. Solo performances in class and in public are also encouraged. In addition, in order to fulfill degree requirements, students are required to participate in one major instrumental ensemble.<br><br><br>Careers with a degree in music<br><br>In addition to leading graduates into secondary education teaching careers, our graduates can be found among the ranks of professional orchestras, service bands, prestigious graduate programs and instructing at universities across the country.
