Dive into advanced study of early music up to the mid-19th century with a Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) in Historical Performance Practice from Case Western Reserve University. This program combines advanced coursework in performance, music history and performance practices while you spend four years of full-time study in Cleveland a city known for its musical offerings.<br><br>Admission to the DMA in Historical Performance Practice program is granted to those who demonstrate the potential to be leaders in the field of early music. To be considered, you must show excellent scholarly potential in music history and performance practices, and must demonstrate a high level of performance skill. Youll be admitted by an audition and interview, and must take an initial placement test in music history and theory on matriculation. <br><br>Our program is formulated to suit your individual needs, based in part on a diagnostic examination taken upon entering the program, and requires the consent of the Head of Historical Performance Practice. A minimum of 33 credit units of academic coursework is required, together with a minimum of 18 credit units of applied music, proficiency in two relevant foreign languages, a jury, the first lecture-recital and the recital, all to be completed during the first three years of your degree.
