Minimum required TOEFL score is 86 for the Internet-based test (IBT) or 567 for the paper-based test (PBT). IELTS minimum score is 7.0.

A 3.0 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) over all post-secondary coursework. Applicants with advanced degrees from accredited institutions are generally, at the discretion of the Graduate School, considered to have met GPA requirements.
Three current letters of recommendation from professors in the applicant's undergraduate major field, or from professors of post-baccalaureate courses, or from others able to make an appropriate assessment of the applicant's academic or professional competence. The MBA and MPAcc programs require a resume in lieu of references.

The prerequisite for the Master of Music degree is the completion of a Bachelor of Music, or Bachelor of Arts in Music prior to first quarter of enrollment. Students must first complete a graduate application through the graduate school. Those applying for the MM in Performance must complete an audition on their primary instrument. Those applying for the MM in Composition must provide a portfolio of recent works. Those applying for the MM in Conducting must provide a video of recent conducting performance, by way of online submission or DVD.
