This coordinated degree program is offered through the UAB School of Medicine and the UAB School of Public Health. Students may focus their MPH in any one of four areas: (1) Environmental Health Science, (2) Epidemiology, (3) Health Behavior, (4) Health Care Organization and Policy, or a combination (general MPH). MPH focus courses may be customized to the experience and needs of the student. This complementary MD/MPH coordinated degree program provide students with a fuller and richer perspective of community and global health issues including the epidemiology of disease, health behavior, the impact of environmental and occupational factors on patient health, disease progression, management of disease states, access to care and health policy as well as social, legal and ethical issues. Addition of an MPH degree broadens graduates career opportunities providing a foundation for positions in research, government, international health as well as private industry.
