Applicants seeking admission to the baccalaureate-nursing program with an overall GPA less than 2.75 for college level courses may apply when the following criteria are met:
Gain admission to Western Kentucky University.
Completed a minimum of 80 hours of college level coursework.
Complete all designated prerequisite courses by the time of nursing program entrance.
Attains an overall GPA of 2.75 in the nursing designated pre-requisite courses.
Attain a minimum grade of C in all required courses: BIOL 131, 231, 207, CHEM 109, MATH 115/116, INTRO STATS, HMD 211, PSY/PSYS 220, NURS 102 and NURS 324.

o AND Minimum Individual Scores of:
24 in Speaking
20 in Writing

A certain level of English proficiency is necessary for academic success in nursing as well as for patient safety. In
addition to the University requirements, all applicants (international and U.S. residents) to the undergraduate nursing
programs must attest to one of the following:
1. English is my first (native language)
2. English is not my first language, but I attended 4 years of high school in an English speaking country and all
courses were taught in English.
3. English is not my first language and I did not attend 4 years of high school where all courses were taught in
English.
Those who fall into category 3 above must take the TOEFL internet-based test (TOEFL iBT) and obtain the following
minimum scores to demonstrate proficiency in English.

Aspire to reach new heights with a degree that equips you to be successful in a rapidly expanding field The goal of the WKU BSN program is to provide an accessible, high quality Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program to meet the needs of both students and the nursing workforce. The BSN program at WKU provides training in areas such as communication, leadership, and critical thinking skills, all of which are becoming more important as nursing practice becomes more complex. <br><br>Admission to the BSN program is competitive and requires a separate application. Enrollment is limited and based on student qualifications, availability of faculty, and clinical resources. The traditional BSN program is a full-time, four semester, upper division option designed for students who have completed a minimum of 63 credits and required pre-requisite courses. Pre-nursing (586P) advising is provided by the College of Health & Human Services professional staff advisors within the Advising & Career Development Center, DSU Suite 2001.<br><br>Supervised clinical experience is provided in the hospital departments such as pediatrics, psychiatric, maternity, and surgery. In addition to the hospital setting, our students receive clinical experience in nursing homes, schools and health departments, all leading to a broader knowledge based student nurse.<br><br>Graduates of the BSN program qualify to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN), the licensure examination for eligibility to become a registered nurse.
