Applicants must submit official transcripts for all undergraduate and any graduate work. Certified copies of transcripts are acceptable; faxed copies of transcripts are not considered official. If you previously attended Loyola University Chicago, you do not need to request transcripts.
If applying for the post-MSN option, your transcript must show that you have completed a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and have completed or are in the process of completing a Master of Science in Nursing.
If applying for the BSN-to-PhD option, your transcript must show that you have completed a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Please submit three letters of recommendation. Your statement should address your interest in entering Loyola’s program, including a summary of academic and research interests, professional goals, and potential faculty mentors. CURRENT NURSING LICENSE
Students must hold a current license from a U.S. state. International students must hold the equivalent license from their country.
WRITING SAMPLE FROM A RESEARCH OR SCHOLARLY PAPER
Please discuss this requirement with Dr. Schmidt when you contact him about your research interest area. For the TOEFL, a score of at least 79 on the Internet-based or 550 on the written-based test is required. For the IELTS, a minimum score of 6.0 is required.

Preparing nurse scholars to improve health through research, education, and leadership<br>Advance the scientific foundation of nursing practice and health care delivery with a PhD in Nursing from the Marcella Niehoff School of Nursing. Under the guidance of our faculty, students are prepared to launch a program of research addressing the social, cultural, political and ethical issues related to an area of nursing scholarship. At Loyola Nursing, our PhD students enjoy a small program that offers a personalized learning experience with the opportunity to build close mentor relationships. The PhD in Nursing program is open to bachelor's and master's-prepared nurses.<br>The goal of the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Nursing program is to prepare scholars who improve human health through the development and expansion of knowledge. <br><br>PROGRAM OUTCOMES<br>At the completion of the program the graduate has the knowledge and skills to:<br> Initiate a beginning program of research that expands nursing and healthcare knowledge.<br> Incorporate social, cultural, political, economic, and ethical considerations into nursing scholarship and practice.<br> Participate in the international community of scholars to further the Jesuit mission of generation and dissemination of knowledge in the service of humanity.<br> Assume leadership roles in nursing research, education, practice, policy development, and/or administration in order to improve the health of society.
