The purpose of the program is to provide (a) graduate-level training for individuals seeking employment by community mental health centers, the Arkansas State Department of Human Services, and other community agencies, (b) electives and enrichment for other master's degree programs, and (c) courses of interest to persons holding a baccalaureate degree.<br><br>The master's degree in clinical and mental health counseling is designed to provide students with training in both clinical and developmental counseling. It also meets Arkansas licensure requirements for Licensed Professional Counselors. Candidates for this degree will be required to develop skills necessary to provide personal and group counseling for clients in mental health, community agencies, private practice, and business and industry settings.<br><br>A student's plan of study is designed to meet licensure requirements according to Arkansas law. Southern Arkansas University is not responsible for courses required for licensure if the state changes requirements after the student's program is approved. Earning a master's degree from Southern Arkansas University does not mean that the degree recipient will receive a license.
