The department requires a minimum GPA of 3.3 on a 4.0 point scale based on equivalent of the most recent two years of coursework (or last 60 course credits). The Committee gives preference to students with a background Health Science, such as, Biological Sciences, Physiology, Biochemistry, or Pharmacy. Applicants are required to prepare a brief Statement of Interest indicating their interest in Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences and preferred area of research.
For admission to the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, international students whose language of instruction was not English in their undergraduate or previous graduate program must also present a test score on one of the following English language proficiency exams with their application documents. The graduate student must have a minimum of:

TOEFL score of 600 (paper-based)
Internet-based TOEFL score equivalent of 100 with at least 20 per section
MELAB minimum score is 91
CAEL minimum score is 70 with at least 70 on each section
IELTS minimum score is 7.5 with at least 6 on each band
PTE Academic minimum score is 70.
