课程简介
Diet is a powerful tool that can improve and even prevent chronic conditions that plague our nation, such as obesity, type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, hypertension, and cancer. Improving health through nutrition involves exciting research that spans from the cell to the community. Nutrition is a multidisciplinary field, involving biochemistry, physiology, microbiology, genetics, epigenetics, epidemiology, sociology, public health, policy, exercise, food science, and medical nutrition therapy. The Nutrition and Foods program at Texas State provides state-of-the-science education and training opportunities focused on1) the efficacy of specific nutrients and whole foods-based diets in the promotion of health and treatment of chronic diseases, and 2) promotion of healthy dietary patterns across the life course among diverse individuals and families, with the goal of fostering health equity.

Graduates of our program are in demand across the state and find employment in a variety of nutrition, public health, and wellness-related industries. Upon graduation, many pursue the Registered Dietitian credential and pursue post-graduate educational opportunities such as the Texas State MS in Human Nutrition.

Majors study the relationships between the dietary intake of whole foods, processed foods, functional foods and dietary supplements with the health of individuals and populations. Majors prepare for careers in medical nutrition therapy, food service administration, public health nutrition programs, government agencies, private practice, and consulting. The program also prepares majors for pursuing advanced degrees, academic research, and careers in food and wellness industries. The Dietetics track is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) and also fulfills didactic requirements for Texas licensing. Graduates of this track will receive a Verification Statement and are qualified to apply for post-graduate dietetic internships in pursuit of Registered Dietitian certification. See note below regarding admittance to the Child Development Center and Texas Teacher Certification Requirements.
