To meet the minimum eligibility standards for graduate study at San Francisco State, an applicant must:
1.Hold a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited institution, or shall have completed equivalent academic preparation as determined by the appropriate campus authority,
2.be in good academic standing at the last college or university attended,
3.Have a 3.0 GPA or better in their earned undergraduate degree or the last 60-semester (90-quarter) units completed, or have earned a post-baccalaureate degree, and
4.Meet the professional, personal, scholastic, and other standards for graduate study, including qualifying examinations, as appropriate campus authorities may prescribe. In unusual circumstances, a campus may make exceptions to these criteria. IELTS - 6.5, TOEFL IBT-80, PBT-550, PTE- 59

Our Graduate Program in English Literature prides itself on its intellectual rigor, diversity of subjects and approaches, and commitment to excellence in teaching. Our course offerings balance traditional literary history with new work in such fields as postcolonial studies, food studies, digital literacies, environmental humanities, cultural studies, literature and psychology, narrative, lyric, and performance theories, and feminist studies. Students in our program have the flexibility to design and personalize their master's program to meet their diverse interests and provide opportunities for professionalization in the field.The M.A. Program serves the needs of those whose goal is teaching in junior or community colleges or private high schools, pursuing a PhD, or advancing skills and knowledge in reading and writing about literature. Our graduates work as teachers in high schools and community colleges, enter the field of publishing, write for journals, magazines, and online publications, earn PhDs, enter law school, start their own businesses, and work for non-profits, foundations, and government agencies.
