国际学生入学条件
A bachelor's degree from Simon Fraser University or its equivalent from a recognized institution. A cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0/4.33 (B), or a grade point average of at least 3.33/4.33 (B+) based on the last 60 credits of undergraduate courses. The Department of English has certain requirements beyond the Dean of Graduate Studies regulations, namely a minimum 3.5 CGPA (cumulative grade point average) and, for international students, either a degree from an English-speaking post-secondary institution or top scores in any of the acceptable English language tests, i.e. TOEFL Paper (650+), TOEFL Computer-Based (280+), TOEFL Internet-Based (95+), or IELTS (8.5-9)
Three (3) letters of reference. Letters must be in sealed, signed envelopes if mailed directly to the Department. These letters can come from former professors if the applicant is a relatively recent graduate, but also from principals, department heads and colleagues. Letters of reference should assess the applicant's ability to do well in and complete an MA in English. Referees may comment upon the applicant's aptitude for advanced English studies, his or her enthusiasm for literature, intelligence, verbal skills, maturity, and work habits. They may want to speak to the applicant's initiative in taking up leadership roles in the study of English in his or her schools and professional development activities.
Transcripts of all previous post-secondary studies. A minimum 3.0 GPA is required to be considered for admission to MATE. Transcripts must be in sealed envelopes which bear a university seal if mailed directly to the Department. One copy only of each transcript is required.
Applicants must submit a concise statement (1-2 pages) about their intended course of studies, their aptitudes, and their interests in graduate work in English.

The Master of Arts for Teachers of English (MATE) Program is an innovative and accessible graduate degree program that offers English teachers in the elementary, secondary, or college system within the province of British Columbia the opportunity to pursue advanced studies in English literature. The MATE Program is tailored to the schedules of teachers without compromising the quality of instruction, intellectual engagement, or the rigour and breadth of scholarship of the regular MA program in English. The 2020-2022 iteration of MATE will have three courses focused on Indigenous literatures.
