国际学生入学条件
Transcripts from all colleges or universities attended are required. Transcripts may be sent directly from the
Registrar of the institution you attended or transcripts issued directly to the applicant, and so marked, are
acceptable, and can be submitted online following the electronic submission process. If you attended Caltech as
an undergraduate, you must request an official transcript from the Office of the Registrar. We cannot obtain one
on your behalf.
Attach a CV or resume that includes the following, if applicable:
1) Teaching, professional, and vocational experience (include military service, but omit summer or part-time
work not relevant to your professional goals)
2) Research experience
3) Major academic recognitions, honors, and memberships in scientific, professional and honorary societies
4) Professional activities
5) Significant extracurricular activities
6) Conference presentations
7) Titles of publications, major papers, or theses authored or co-authored, if published provide citation. Do not
upload the entire document as the admissions committee often does not have the time to read a large file.
It is preferred that you either list or provide links or a URL where publications can be located.
Caltech does not have a minimum GPA requirement. However, most successful applicants have a US GPA of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and/or are in the top 5 to 10% of their class.
GPA's should only be reported for those schools attended within the United States. International GPA's or rankings should not converted to the standard US grade point average.
Applicants who have studied in the US for two or more years
Applicants with a degree from a college or university whose primary instruction is in English
Please note that regardless of any documentation of English proficiency submitted as part of the admissions process, all non-native English speakers who have not attended a school where English is the primary language of instruction will be screened prior to enrollment and may be required to take additional English as a Second Language (ESL) courses.
There is no minimum requirement for the English proficiency exams. However, all new students who have had limited instruction in English will participate in a one-on-one English evaluation with the ESL instructor during Orientation and may be asked to enroll in an English as a Second Language (ESL) course.

The Biochemistry and Molecular Biophysics graduate option has been established as an interdisciplinary program at the interface of biology, chemistry, and physics that seeks to understand the chemistry of life. Thus, biochemists and biophysicists study the atomic structure and folding of biopolymers, their interactions with each other and with small molecules, and the roles of particular biopolymers and biopolymer assemblies in cellular physiology. The basic building block of life is the cell and the intellectual focus of modern biochemistry and biophysics is to understand how individual parts interact to give cells their wide spectrum of functions. In particular, biochemistry and molecular biophysics addresses the principles through which the individual components of cells combine in an orderly self-association to produce their form, their function, and their dynamic behavior.

An integrated approach to graduate study in biochemistry and molecular biophysics has been organized primarily by the Division of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering and the Division of Biology and Biological Engineering. The curriculum is designed to provide a broad background in biochemistry and biophysics of macromolecules and molecular assemblies, in addition to an appropriate depth of knowledge in the field selected for the Ph.D. thesis research. The goal of the doctoral program is to prepare students to become leading scientists in academia and industry. By graduation time, our students are expected not only to be highly competent in their chosen area of research, but to have also acquired a broad knowledge foundation in biochemistry and molecular biophysics, independently planned and conducted research experiments in their chosen area, and successfully defended their thesis work in an open forum.
