The CMIB Graduate Program does not establish minimum cut-off values on any indices. Rather, we attempt to select those applicants with the most promise for superior achievement. The following standards serve only as general guidelines. The successful applicant will typically have:
Four-year bachelor's degree that includes coursework that demonstrates proficiency in math and science
An undergraduate GPA of 3.5
Research experience
Strong letters of reference that include evaluation of the applicant's research experience
International students will have TOEFL scores of at least 550 with no sub-score below 52 (paper-based test) or 80 with no sub-score below 19 (22 writing section) (Internet-based test)
The CMIB Admissions Committee, in conjunction with potential faculty mentors, determines who will be admitted. An applicant's acceptance will be based upon:
Academic record, including grade-point average, quality of previous training, performance on the GRE, and proficiency in English, as demonstrated by the TOEFL for applicants whose native language is not English
Personal statement of professional goals, emphasizing areas of interest
Three letters of reference
Availability of appropriate mentors

The College of Veterinary Medicine offers graduate programs in each of six departments: Large Animal Clinical Sciences, Microbiology and Molecular Genetics, Pathobiology and Diagnostic Investigation, Pharmacology and Toxicology, Physiology, and Small Animal Clinical Sciences. These departments participate in the training of the master's degree programs. Doctor of Philosophy degree programs are offered in all departments except Small Animal Clinical Sciences. In addition, there are two college-based graduate programs: Comparative Medicine and Integrative Biology (CMIB) (Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy) and Food Safety (Master of Science). Trainees in the CMIB program work on a diverse diseases and biological processes with foci ranging from the molecular, cellular, and organismal and population level. CMIB Ph.D. students also have the option of participating in the Environmental and Integrative Toxicological Sciences (EITS) Doctoral Program. CMIB alumni are employed in academia, industry and government positions. The College also offers the Doctor of Philosophy degree focused on depth of understanding across disciplines, acquisition of research skills and the conducting of original research.
