To be admitted to an undergraduate degree program as a regular freshman student, you must be a graduate from an approved or accredited high school (GED certificate may not be used for admission) and satisfy the below requirements:
You must have a 3.0 weighted GPA in the academic core courses in order to be admitted to the University of Nevada, Reno. The academic courses include: English, math, social sciences and natural sciences. A weighted GPA takes into account the extra difficulty of honors, AP or IB classes.

If you are not admissible, you will be offered enrollment to a Nevada NSHE Community College. You will be offered admission to a Nevada university once you have completed a minimum of 24 college transferable semester credits at a NSHE Community College and have a 2.5 GPA in all your coursework.

If you are a student who does not meet our academic GPA requirements, but have graduated with an Advanced Diploma from a Nevada high school, you will be granted admission to the University. You must also meet the 13 core course requirements in English, mathematics, social studies and natural sciences to be considered for admission.

You must submit your final, official high school transcripts to support your application for admission.

As an environmental science major, you'll study the science necessary to solve a wide variety of environmental problems, including statistics, biology, geology and environmental science. You'll also take classes in environmental law and policy to help you understand the economic, legal and social factors that impact conservation efforts and the environment.<br><br>You'll choose one of five areas of specialization in the major, which gives you an opportunity to take electives in environmental topics that most interest you and support your career goals. All tracks in the major are highly interdisciplinary, including classes from the College of Agriculture, Biotechnology & Natural Resources and the College of Science. Certain tracks also include courses in economics, policy or engineering, depending on their focus.<br><br>Careers with a degree in environmental science<br>CABNR students working in a river<br><br>A major in environmental science can prepare you for a wide range of career paths as well as provide a foundation for further study in graduate school. Environmental scientists may find jobs in private industries, consulting, nonprofit organizations or government agencies ranging from the federal to the local level.<br><br>Environmental scientists can have a variety of job duties, such as collecting soils or surveying landscapes out in the field, conducting research in laboratories, informing policymakers and advocating for public policy. Depending on your interests and your area of specialization, you might find a job helping private industry comply with government regulations, or you may spend your time doing research on ways to address problems such as climate change or pollution, and writing grants to support such work.
