Conservation emphasizes the interdependent relationship between humans and the environment, and may be the most important application of ecology. Conservation Scientists may work with invasive species (i.e. brown tree snakes & cuban tree frogs), endangered or threatened species (i.e. lesser prairie chickens & stout iguanas), ecosystem restoration, or human dimensions. Graduates of this program have an unusually wide diversity of career options, most of them in the environmental arena. As with other NRM graduates, many choose to continue to graduate school. The next most common career choice over the past decade has been environmental consulting, with other private industry employment and work for the federal government being almost as popular. Additional graduates are employed by state governments, local governments, and as teachers. Most of our graduates remain in Texas, but others have moved to other states and even internationally.
