The entrance requirements for the Bachelor of Arts degree will apply to the English program.
Option 1: Secondary school (for students with secondary school graduation only)
B.C. applicants
B.C. secondary school graduation or equivalent.
Option 2: University entrance (for students who have attended some post-secondary school)
One of the following:
Completion of a minimum of 30 credits in courses numbered at the 100 level and above, with a minimum CGPA of 2.00 on all credits attempted.
Completion of a minimum of nine credits at the 100 level and above, transferable to a degree program, with a minimum GPA of 3.00 on all credits attempted.
Completion of a post-secondary career or technical diploma (minimum of two years post-secondary credit) from a recognized Canadian or International post-secondary institution, with a minimum CGPA of 2.50 (equated to the UFV grading scheme), calculated on all courses taken.
Completion of a three- or four-year Bachelor's degree from a recognized Canadian or International institution, with a minimum GPA of 2.00
English Language Requirements:
TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) - IBT score of 88 with no section below 20, or paper-based score of 570 with a TWE (essay) score of 4.5 or higher.
IELTS (International English Language Testing System) Academic format - score of at least 6.5., with no band score less than 6.0.
MELAB (Michigan English Language Assessment Battery) - score of at least 85.
CAEL (Canadian Academic English Language) - score of at least 70.

Develop your thinking, reading, and writing skills - skills that are highly sought after by employers and applicable in a wide range of fields from marketing and business administration to education, journalism, and research with UFV's Bachelor of Arts in English.<br><br>UFV's English program provides you with the ability to articulate complex ideas and research findings and the skills to analyze various texts and interpret iconic written works throughout history.<br>English major<br><br>There are four concentrations on which to focus your English major: Literature, Creative Writing, Drama, and Writing and Rhetoric.<br><br> Literature courses provide grounding in major authors, genres, and periods as well as a broad understanding of socio-cultural processes that shape Indigenous, national, and transnational literatures.<br><br> Creative writing courses integrate literary study with writing workshops in which you discuss your work with your peers and instructors. Learn various creative processes and techniques for poetry, playwriting, and fiction.<br><br> Drama courses enhance your understanding of how language functions in theatre. You explore a range of dramatic genres, consider how dramatic texts document and archive past performance practices, and contextualize the significance of theatre in historical and social movements.<br><br> Writing and rhetoric courses teach you how writing and language are used as tools by examining issues of meaning and usage of the English language.
