All applicants must have the equivalent of a 2.00 U.S. GPA or higher. A high school diploma is not required for students who are 18 years old or older.
All applicants must be 17 years old or older by their first semester start date. Students who are under 18 must submit a copy of the minor forms below with their application, and a copy of their high school diploma before the program start date.
Secondary School and/or College or University
Submit a copy of your transcript.
Studied for a minimum of 3 years in English at an international secondary school.
Attended a US high school or secondary school in a country where English is the primary language of instruction for at least one year.
Completed all years of study in a secondary school in Swedish, Norwegian, Danish, Finnish, German, or Dutch countries and received passing grades in English.
Attended a U.S. college or university for at least one semester (non-ESL courses).
Attended at least one semester of non-ESL courses at a college or university where English is the primary language of instruction.
Standardized Tests:
Submit a copy of your test result showing one of the minimum scores listed below.
Cambridge: B2 (scale 160-180)
Duolingo: 90
IB English exam: 5
IELTS: 5.5
PTE Academic: 44
TOEFL: PBT 450, CBT 160, IBT 60
TOEIC: 850 or higher on both exams (Reading/Listening and Writing/Speaking)
English Language Schools:
Submit a copy of your language school certificate or transcript showing successful completion of one of the ESL levels listed below.
American Language Institute: Level 4
Converse International School of Languages: Level B2

There are two emphases in earning the Creative Writing Certificate.<br><br>The General Writing emphasis will enhance students abilities as creative writers and help them market and publish their work.<br>The Professional Writing emphasis focuses on applied areas of study, such as screenwriting, technical writing, journalism and non-fiction.<br>The Certificate in Creative Writing requires a total of 18 units. Students must take both core courses (6 units), then 4 courses from their selected trackCreative Writing Emphasis or Professional Writing Emphasis (12 units), with the possibility of substituting two of those courses from the elective list (see below). Each emphasis has a list of recommended electives. During the semester that a student receives the Creative Writing Certificate, she or he should present a public reading of no less than twenty minutes as arranged with an English Department faculty member who regularly teaches creative writing courses.
