Freshman applicants must submit official secondary school mark sheets and diploma. Mailed documents must be originals or copies certified by the school principal or controller of examinations and sealed in a school envelope. Documents not in English must be translated by a certified translator. Official transcripts are also accepted by email if sent directly from the school principal or registrar. Students who do not meet minimum English proficiency requirements may apply for conditional admission, during which time they will need to be enrolled in an intensive English program, such as ISU's IEI program, in preparation for full-time academic study at ISU. Have graduated from a high school or secondary school with satisfactory grades, received a diploma or certificate of graduation, and be eligible for admission to a major university in the country from which they graduated. Have an estimated GPA of 2.25.
TOEFL iBT 61, Paper 500, Computer 173, IELTS - 5.5 overall score OR a minimum 5.0 in ALL subscores

At Idaho State University, our Department of English is dedicated to providing a diverse range of programs and courses in English literature, creative writing, professional writing, linguistics, and film studies. With our dedicated faculty and small, personal classes, you will have the opportunity to explore the rich traditions of literature and gain a deep understanding of language and its cultural impact. The Professional Writing program concentrates on technical and business writing, media studies, and writing in professional settings. Students build a foundation in writing for a variety of audiences, master language and writing skills, and develop their critical and analytical thinking.<br><br>Our professors have worked as professional or technical writers in the professional world. They bring real-world into the classroom. Professional writing students also complete a 75-hour internship. A student with this degree could go on to a career in technical writing, communication, media, journalism, editing, design, business, or public relations. Alumni from our undergraduate program have worked as scientists, journalists, graphic designers, editors, authors, and web content managers.
