The Academic English Program is the choice of students wishing to enter a university undergraduate or graduate program. Students may enroll in the 7-week Academic English Program summer, fall and spring. <br>Each week consists of 20 hours of instruction taught by qualified ESL instructors. Academic Reading, Writing, & Vocabulary and Communication & Grammar classes meet Monday through Friday (no Friday classes in summer) in the mornings, and the Pronunciation & Conversation classes meet in the afternoons (Tuesdays and Thursdays, typically). The IELI curriculum uses academic content for language instruction. <br>There are 6 total course levels students must pass in order to get a certificate of completion for IELI. Course placement is based according to the results of the IELI placement tests and/or Doling, IELTS, TOEFL Scores. All new students must take placement tests. Students can ''test out'' of a course by taking the placement exam and earning a high enough score to begin more advanced levels.<br>Students must earn a ''C'' or higher in their courses to progress in the Academic English Program. Students completing Levels V and VI of the program by earning a letter grade of ''B'' (80) or higher will receive a certificate stating their completion of the Academic English Program and use their certificate in place of the language requirement for admission to MSU Texas.
