A minimum 3.00 grade point average (GPA) in a completed undergraduate degree program
Official transcripts from previous undergraduate and graduate programs. The minimum requirements are a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent) for the last two years of undergraduate work or post-baccalaureate study,
Official GRE verbal and quantitative scores, sent directly by the Educational Testing Service. The University Graduate School's current requirement is a minimum of 1000 combined verbal and quantitative score on the GRE or equivalent on the GMAT, EXADEP or LSAT.
International graduate student applicants whose native language is not English: TOEFL or IELTS scores, sent directly by the Educational Testing Service. The minimum requirement is a total score of 80 on the IBT TOEFL (equivalent to 550 on the paper-based version, or 213 on the computer-based version of TOEFL) or a total score of 6.3 on IELTS.
Three letters of recommendation, two of which must be from professors (no specific format is required).

Master of Arts in Latin American and Caribbean Studies (MALACS) is a unique interdisciplinary program that allows students to design their program based on their own research and career interests. The Program is particularly valuable to those students whose research and professional interests cannot be accommodated within a single discipline. The program stresses a close faculty-student advising relationship.<br>FIU's location in Miami, a city known as The Gateway to Latin America, positions students close to the heart of the region, both physically and culturally, creating unique opportunities for study and research. <br>The flexible program encourages students to develop their own concentration based on individual interests, expertise, and academic and professional goals.<br>The interdisciplinary curriculum prepares students for careers that require in-depth knowledge of Latin America and the Caribbean, its peoples and societies. Students may choose courses taught by more than 300 interdisciplinary faculty associates from various departments and across colleges and schools at FIU.<br>Students may enroll in joint Master's degree programs in International Business or Law, saving both time and money. Students have access to FIU's extensive Latin American and Caribbean library holdings and resources including FIU Special Collections, the Diaz Ayala Cuban and Latin American Popular Music Collection, and the Digital Library of the Caribbean.<br>Alumni are employed in a variety of public and private industries in the U.S. and abroad. They currently serve as research directors, teachers, NGO administrators, diplomatic representatives, policy-makers, and small business owners. Many alumni of the program have also gone on to pursue PhDs and many have excelled in careers in higher education.
