International students required to evidence their English language proficiency by sitting a Secure English Language Test (SELT) will be asked to complete an IELTS for UKVI (Academic) test taken at a UKVI approved test. Our current requirement for doctoral study is IELTS for UKVI (Academic) with 6.5 overall and no less than 6.5 in each component

1 x Completed Research Proposal Form
2 x academic references (on institutional headed paper, signed and dated within 6 months of your application)
Transcripts of Previous Degrees
English Language Qualification (if applicable)
Portfolio of recent work (if your application is for a practice-led PhD)

The Glasgow School of Art has a distinctive specialist, practice-led research culture which is widely recognised internationally. The generation of new knowledge and understanding through creative practice, scholarship and criticism in Fine Art, Design, Craft, Architecture and related fields is central to the concept of research. Our researchers include internationally renowned artists, designers, architects, historians and critics.<br><br>The MPhil is a one-year postgraduate research degree programme based in one of GSA's five schools – Fine Art, Design, Innovation, Architecture or Simulation and Visualisation. The programme offers full or part-time study, with a degree gained after 1 years (full-time) or 2 years (part-time) of study.<br><br>The PhD is a three-year postgraduate research degree programme based in one of GSA's five schools – Fine Art, Design, Innovation, Architecture or Simulation and Visualisation, supervised by a Primary Supervisor and up to two additional co-supervisors (one of which may be an academic in another institution, with approval from GSA). The programme offers full or part-time study, with a degree gained after 3 years (full-time) or 6 years (part-time) of study.<br><br> MPhil - One year, PhD - Three years
