Our Clinical Mental Health Counseling major prepares students for professional counseling in different settings blending research and theory with practical applied experience. This major provides students with core classes that include personality theories, cross-cultural counseling, psychopathology and clinical experiences.In this major, you focus on building awareness, skills and techniques that will make you an effective mental health counselor to individuals across the lifespan. You learn to provide individual and group counseling to individuals from diverse cultural groups and how to diagnose mental disorders. Successfully completing the program makes you eligible for national certification and state licensure in mental health counseling.<br>The objectives of the Counselor Education program at the Florida International University are:<br>To prepare competent and ethical mental health and school counselors, who:<br>Understand, master and apply subject matter from the following areas:Professional Counseling Orientation and Ethical Practice<br>Multicultural and counseling diverse populations (i.e., ethnic, racial, cultural, gender, sexual/affectional, class, age, disability and/or spiritual/religious), Counseling and helping relationships, Personality and counseling theories and practice<br>Human development theories,Group theories and practice,Assessment and Testing,Research and program evaluation<br>Career and vocational counseling<br>To increase the number of students enrolled in the program.To increase the number of students that complete the program.<br>To ensure students will be satisfied with their overall graduate program experience.
